There’s something to these small, connected communities. There’s always some article or another looking for the ‘secrets’ of long, happy lives. You know, for profit ;)
Don’t worry, we at the Desert Salon have no interest in selling you on the fountain of youth. Pretty sure that Ponce guy died for it.
It does make you wonder, what about our world isn’t keeping us alive? What are we missing? For August’s Salon, we’ll be learning about Blue Zones: places in the world with high numbers of folks who live to their 100s.
A short intro on Blue Zones with a video clip
A Healthline article that breaks down some of the lifestyles that Blue Zones share
A New York Times article by Dan Buettner, who wrote the book on Blue Zones…so to speak
We’ll be using Zoom once again so no amount of distance is an obstacle. All are welcome to join us on August 30th 11:30 AM, PST. Make sure to RSVP for meeting info.
See you soon.
The Desert Salon is not a class: it rejects the roles of teacher and student. The Desert Salon is radical: it rejects the divisions that the world makes between us based on skin, ableism, sex, gender, or class. Past meetings have discussed things as massive as the the Imperialist White-Supremacist Capitalist Heteropatriarchy and as local as water price changes. Being a radical is not a requirement, but you just might be inspired.
